I would go for a skin that looks great, but doesnt cost a fortune, fellblades look pretty awesome, and their pretty cheap too
People pay stupid amounts for Crystalline swords,Colossal Scimitars,Dwarven Axes etc because of the way they look, but you can get even better weapons, that i think look better sometimes anyway for cheaper, which you can spend on dyes, armor etc
But thats IMO

I ussually just see if i can get something nice for me to drop, and use it if i like the skin, sell if i don't.
rarity doesn't bother me that much, it's all about how much i like the actual skin myself.
IMO the best thing is to get the weapon to drop for you instead of buying one you like... i did make a exeption for a wooden flatbow req 9 inscibaple tough, my favrite bow skin and at a cheap price ^^
Buying a vanity skin, because of the sheer value makes no sense to me.

Personally, I have to like how a weapon looks AND functions to permanently use it on my characters.
I personally won't use a weapon unless I customize it (unless it's a martial weapon on a caster), so it has to meet both criteria enough to make it mine, and mine alone.

It's gotta look good for me, but the rarity is irrelevant to me. I look at the skin first and the rarity second; and that only in the hopes that it's not rare so I don't have to spend a fortune on it.

I generally just go for the skins or designs I like most, often to match it up with my character's armor set, not because it looks super rare or unique.
I don't play with random players or try to show off these things enough to warrant super duper rare items, it merely adds to my experience playing the game and makes me enjoy my characters and their appearance more...
The most expensive and elaborate skin item i have is a Obsidian/Orrish earth staff for my elementalist because it just looks so nice with the 15k Geomancer and/or FoW armor... here for example
I generally try to match my weapons/shields with the armor set of the character I use it on most, sometimes it may require a nice skin, otherwise i just dont care what it is :P Value has no meaning in this decision unless the ideal item is outrageously overpriced

I find the problem with a lot of the swords is they look like toothpicks in the meet hooks of a male warrior. A large number of the skins I would love if they were thicker/longer, however they aren't and I just don't envision my warrior going into battle with something that looks less intimidating than my shield.

Bigger= Better. This is why I use a Longsword, a Gemstone Axe, and a bunch o' big hammers. My warrior is big, he should be able to smoosh people. But I don't like fellblades. Too evil looking.

Must you say "retarded"? They're just fantasy-styled, there's nothing wrong with them. So you don't like the style, that doesn't mean you can call a sword skin "retarded".

As long as it's a Fiery Dragon sword, I do not mind.

First of all, WOW a lot of posts! Thanks for the replying guys! I can see from the general amount of posts thats its all about your opinions on the skin/stats ect. But to Priest of Sin : QFT. I have a mini monk and I just love big skins. I'm thinking of getting a fellblade now because they are so big .
Thesus get out of my thread you are ruining it...
Keep answering! I'd love to see more people reply!

For me, it's all about the stats on the weapon, and looks come in a distant second. I favor collector weapons and modding good weapons that happen to drop for me. That said, I have an ongoing lust problem with the tattooed scimitar. I'd love to find just the right one for my warrior. It would go nicely with her Tyrian cleavers and runic axe.

I only get things I like, and which I think that match other stuff like my armor.
for 15K glads armor, I use a crimson carpace collectors with somehting like a fellblade, while I walk aorund with a black echovald and a gothic axe while wearing FoW armor.
Further, I like crystallines, bit I also like wingblades, and especially longswords.

QFT. Short of fellblades and longswords, most other skins look like I'm using a gladius. But I don't care, cause fellblades and longswords both go well with kurzick armour and gloom shields. So the skin is important, as for stats?
No reason they shouldn't be max. With how easy it is to get mods nowadays, there's no reason you shouldn't have perfect mods to cover all situations. If cost is a factor, there's plenty of nice looking greens too.

I collect weapons that have good eye-candy value regardless of price. If it looks good to me and I can afford it, I'll definitely take a shot at buying the desired item.
I like crystallines, phoenix blades, fellblades, etc...

I use what I like. I can afford anything in this game bar none but the simpler skins appeal to me more.
Found a non-max short sword last night, equipped it and realised it went rather well with my 15k glads so now im going to buy one to customise.
